Residing in Columbia, Maryland and Boca Raton, Florida, Al Biegel, the artist, has been painting using various art mediums for more than 40 years. Inspired by the scenics and opportunities derived from his worldwide travel and experiences, Al, a retired US Army Colonel and Government analyst, has painted hundreds of canvases that graphically depict the drama of international landscapes and still lifes. Using oil, acrylic, and watercolor mediums, he has consistently worked with local artists during his tours of duty in Europe, and Asia to capture the techniques, moods, and essence of the local scene. His retrospectives on German, Russian, Greek, Italian, French and Vietnamese scenics have been displayed at numerous art exhibits, galleries, education centers and US Government buildings.

During the past decade, Al has focused his attention on the color, light, and atmosphere of various landscapes and structural facades, to include flower laden windows and unique doorways. He has produced a substantial collection of paintings derived from his international travels.

Though she had been snapping pictures with low-tech disposable Kodak cameras from a young age, Lauren began her formal education in Black & White photography at age 14.  Always interested in art, but without the patience or talent for painting and drawing, she turned to her camera to focus her creativity.  As a photographer, she strives to look for the personality in everyday objects, and took to photographing subjects without a voice of their own.  Lauren has shown her photographs in several college shows, and was recently awarded the President’s Award for one of her still life photographs.

One can see that Avonlea Rose has a varied repertoire in photography. Recording field trips as a homeschooler for her portfolio, she began taking pictures at 8 years old. She soon submitted work the Howard County Fair of her photos of Ireland, Placing First and second in her age group. As her education continued, she began to vary not only in her point of view but in subjects as well as formats, instamatic camera to black and white film camera to her beloved Nikon D80.

Penny Kritt’s Studio Artists Show

Join Penny and her students for an art show that offers an exciting blend of traditional and modern art.  From watercolors to acrylics, from landscapes to modern art, the Kritt studio trains artists in a variety of disciplines.

Penny’s studio provides a unique haven for both the beginning and the experienced artist.  From stay-at-home moms to retired people who finally have time for themselves, the studio provides lessons in painting, drawing, digital art techniques and composition.  Advanced artists who need either private critiques or an open environment with others enjoy being in a working art studio that has the materials and resources to inspire them and keep their work fresh.

Penny says that, if a student can’t do the lesson plan, the failure is Penny’s, not the student’s.  The studio offers a safe and supportive place to bring out the artist in all.
